Cordless angle drills for work in tight spaces

A cordless angle drill drills and drives where a straight machine will not fit: between joists and studs, in a service shaft, behind a dashboard or inside a meter cupboard. The head sits at a right angle to the body, which brings the height needed down to a few centimetres while you still steer the machine with both hands.

The range splits into two classes. The 12V machines are light and short and belong to electrical work, installation and assembly inside cabinets. The 18V models deliver clearly more torque and pull hole saws and larger diameter wood bits, with a chuck up to 10 mm or 13 mm. Above them sit heavier versions on 36V, 40V and 54V, meant for running services through structural timber.

Then look at the drive and the battery. A brushless motor runs cooler and holds its speed better under load, which you notice the moment the bit binds in the timber. More important still is the battery platform: pick the machine that matches the packs already in the van, because that is where the difference between a bare tool and a set with battery and charger is earned back. The rest of the range for screwing, drilling and chiseling follows on from this.
